| As I said in my introduction, Avalon's Army of Angels came from the hearts of people who have chosen to take this walk of fire with us. These people often know me better than I know myself. They realized that my heart is forever going to be held by the children of cancer, and decided to start the healing now. Several of the voices of Army took me to dinner one night, and asked me what I would do if I had all the money in the world to do it. The goals of Avalon's Army of Angels were developed from my wishes. It was a rare blessing to have people willing to listen, and commit themselves to making my hopes and dreams come true. The board of Avalon's Army of Angels has asked that I not be involved with the Army of Angels, until my own little angel is done with treatment. They are correct, my time and energy is wholly occupied now by caring for Avalon and in sharing our journey with all of you. I accept their request to remain outside, and thank them for, again, knowing my needs better even than I do. I will share their story, their needs, their accomplishments - as part of our journey, because they are intrinsically linked. What I cannot do is play a role in their story, until mine has come to an end. As my one gift to the Army, I am undertaking a very personal fundraising effort. I hope they'll all forgive this one transgression... To the current and future members of Avalon's Army of Angels, I wish to say "Thank You". Your generosity of spirit will heal the hearts of families for years to come. Your gifts of love and caring have already meant the world to us, and we are thrilled that you have decided to share them with other families. The creation of Avalon's Army of Angels has given a purpose to our nightmare, and we can never tell you the peace that brings to our hearts. Through you, we have found grace...
